Firmin the Younger of Amiens

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The holy Firmin the Younger of Amiens , also Firmin the Confessor , Firminus confessor († 4th century) was the third bishop of Amiens .

Little is known about his life. He is said to have been a student of Firmin the Elder of Amiens and built the church of Saint-Acheul (today in a suburb of Amiens ) over his grave, which was the cathedral of the diocese until the construction of the current Amiens Cathedral.

Firmin the Confessor was equated by some authors with Firmin the Martyr ( Firminus martyr ); however, recent research distinguishes these two holy bishops of Amiens. The Sacramentary of Amiens, which dates from the early Middle Ages, holds a festival mass for Firmin the Martyr on September 25 and a festival mass for Firmin the Confessor on September 1.

His feast day is September 1st .
