Johann Evangelist Stadler
Johann Evangelist Stadler , also Latinized as Johannes Evangelista Stadler (born December 24, 1804 in Parkstetten near Regensburg , † December 30, 1868 in Augsburg ) was a Bavarian theologian and encyclopaedist .
biography
Johann Evangelist Stadler attended high school in Straubing . After studying theology at the University of Landshut , he was ordained a priest in Regensburg in 1827.
In 1828 he received a scholarship from the Herzogliche Georgianum in Munich and continued his studies at the University of Munich . In 1829 he received his doctorate and in 1831 his habilitation in biblical theology. In 1833 he became associate professor at the University of Munich, and in 1837 full professor. At the instigation of Ignaz von Döllinger , he had to give up the chair two years later. In the same year Johann Evangelist Stadler was appointed to the Augsburg cathedral chapter and was dean of the cathedral there in 1859.
His most important work was the Complete Lexicon of Saints . He wrote the first volume together with Franz Joseph Heim and after his death the edition was continued by JN Ginal (volumes IV – V).
