Franz Heinrich Reusch
Franz Heinrich Reusch (born December 4, 1825 in Brilon ; † March 3, 1900 in Bonn ) was an old Catholic theologian and priest.
Together with Ignaz von Döllinger , Johann Friedrich von Schulte and the later Bishop Joseph Hubert Reinkens , he laid the foundation stone for the Old Catholic Church in Germany through the Nuremberg Declaration of August 26 and 27, 1870 against the First Vatican Council .
Career
Reusch became associate professor of Old Testament exegesis in Bonn in 1858 and full professor in 1861 . He worked as a journalist for the church news of the Kölner Blätter . In 1865 Reusch became editor of the Theologische Literaturblatt . He wrote a great many biographies for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie . In addition, he was editor of the Old Catholic Rituals .
From 1873 to 1878 Reusch was vicar general of Bishop Joseph Hubert Reinkens before he resigned from office in protest against the abolition of compulsory celibacy of the Old Catholic priests. As university rector, he made the Bonn Union Conferences of Ignaz von Döllinger possible in 1874 and 1875 and then wrote their documentation. In 1886 he was appointed a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
