First Book is a Washington, DC - based non-profit organization that distributes age-appropriate books to children from financially disadvantaged families.

history

First Book was founded in 1992 by Peter Gold, Elizabeth Arky, and current President Kyle Zimmer . In cooperation with existing programs such as “ Head Start Centers ”, libraries and “after school initiatives”, First Book has meanwhile been able to distribute 65 million books to children.
