Kyle Zimmer is a co-founder of First Book , a non-profit organization that distributes books to children in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia.
Zimmer studied law at the George Washington University National Law Center . In 1992 Zimmer founded First Book together with two colleagues, and has been full-time president there since 1993.
She is a member of the International Board of Directors of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public and Youth Venture .
In November 2006, Zimmer was named Outstanding Social Entrepreneur of the Year in the United States by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship , and in 2014 she received the National Book Award's Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community .
