The First Union 400 was a race in the NASCAR Winston Cup , which was held at North Wilkesboro Speedway . It took place from 1951 to 1996 at the end of March or beginning of April. The 1996 season was the last in which the race was held after the two races were withdrawn from North Wilkesboro Speedway and reassigned to other courses. After the fall race, the Tyson Holly Farms 400 , the circuit was closed.
