Rex White (born August 17, 1929 in Spartanburg , South Carolina ) is a retired American NASCAR racing driver and champion.

Career

White started motor racing in 1956 and achieved 14 top 10 results in his first season, including three in the top 5. He also experienced his first pole position this season. After he went in the 1957 season in only nine of a total of 53 races to the start, White won in the 1958 season in two of the 22 races in which he participated. In the 1959 season he was able to achieve five wins in 23 starts. White's big year came in 1960 when he took part in 40 of a total of 44 races, won six of them and secured the championship in the Grand National Series . In the following season, 1961, he won seven times, but this was not enough to win the championship again and White finished second behind Ned Jarrett . In the 1962 season he even won eight times, but was only fifth in the race for the championship. In White's last two active years, 1963 and 1964, he could not win any more races. After retiring at the end of the 1964 season, White had won 28 out of 233 races and achieved 36 pole positions.
