Joey Logano began his racing career at the age of seven in small vehicles that resemble a go-kart and are called "Quarter Midget". He also drove for many years in various “stock car” models and spent a few years taking part in “Late Model” championships on paved ovals.

In 2005 he drove a race in the FASCAR Pro Truck Series , an oval racing series. He started the race from first place and finished in second place. In the same year he was also active in the USAR Hooters Procup Series , where he drove seven races in the Northern Division, two races in the Southern Division and five races in the Championship Series. He won it once in the Northern Division. Also in the 2006 season he stayed in the USAR Hooters Procup Series, winning twice at South Georgia Motorsports Park . He was also the top driver in the GM Racing Development Driver Evaluation program , which earned him a place with Joe Gibbs Racing.

In the 2007 season Logano was active for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Busch East Series . He won five races in the season. Among other things, the race on the Iowa Speedway , the Featherlite Coaches 200 , in which the Sprint Cup driver Kevin Harvick competed as a guest driver . Kevin Harvick finished the race in second place. Joey Logano won the championship, making it the youngest ever NASCAR Busch East Series champion.

He won the Toyota All-Star Showdown , which took place October 19-20, 2007 at Irwindale Speedway . The Toyota All-Star Showdown is a race for the best drivers of the lower NASCAR racing classes and thus the best opportunity for young drivers to show their talent. On May 4, 2008, he won his debut race in the ARCA Racing Series , the Carolina 500 at Rockingham Speedway .

Nationwide Series

He made his Nationwide Series debut on May 31 of the 2008 season with Heluva Good! 200 at Dover International Speedway in number 20 for Joe Gibbs Racing, after he had met the requirements to participate in NASCAR national series a few days earlier with his 18th birthday. After starting the race from ninth on the grid, he finished sixth. In his second race he secured pole position at the Federated Auto Parts 300 on the Nashville Superspeedway .

At 18 years and 21 days, he took his first victory in his third Nationwide Series race. In New England he was replaced by Tony Stewart , as known before the start of the season . He did not drive the races in Daytona and Chicagoland any further . On June 21, he started on the Milwaukee Mile at the Camping World RV Rental 250 and finished second, as well as on July 19 on the Gateway International Raceway at the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 . In total, in the 19 races in which he started, he not only scored one victory but also 14 top 10 placements and three pole positions and ended the season in 20th place in the championship.

Also in the 2009 season he will compete for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Nationwide Series. In the sixth race of the season, the Nashville 300 on the Nashville Superspeedway, he celebrated his first win of the season. He achieved another win at the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway on June 13th. Halfway through the season after the 16th of a total of 35 races, he was fifth in the championship and had by then achieved eight placements within the top 5, including two second and third places, as well as three pole positions.

Sprint Cup

His Sprint Cup debut was originally the Logano Chevy Rock and Roll 400 of the 2008 season at the Richmond International Raceway enter in the # 02 for Joe Gibbs Racing. Due to bad weather conditions due to the foothills of Hurricane Hanna , qualifying had to be canceled and the starting grid was determined based on the owner points, which meant that Logano was not qualified for the race.

He then completed two races in the number 96 for Hall of Fame Racing at the Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway and at the Camping World RV 400 at the Kansas Speedway . Towards the end of the season he was able to qualify with the starting number 02 for Joe Gibbs Racing for the Dickies 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway and took part in the race accordingly. Since he only participated in three races that season, he retained rookie status for the 2009 season and the opportunity to win the NASCAR Rookie of the Year Award .

Since the 2009 season he has been driving the number 20 car with Joe Gibbs Racing, which he took over from Tony Stewart, who has been driving for his own team, Stewart-Haas Racing , since the season change . Since the team had placed itself in the top 35 Owner's Points at the end of the 2008 season, Logano had the advantage of being automatically qualified for the first six races of the season regardless of the outcome of the qualifying. The season started with 43rd and last place at the Daytona 500 when he retired after an accident after 79 laps. Apart from a 13th place in the third race of the season, the Shelby 427 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway , Logano only achieved placements outside the top 20 in the first eight races. He achieved his first top 10 result at the Aaron's 499 on the Talladega Superspeedway with a ninth place. Since then, Logano has achieved positions within the top 20, with a few exceptions. In the 17th race of the season, the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway , he won his first Sprint Cup victory. With 19 years, 1 month and 4 days he is the youngest driver to ever win a race in the series. As the best newcomer, Logano secured the Rookie of the Year Award. He finished the season in 20th place overall.

In 2018, Logano became NASCAR Cup Series champion with two wins of the season and the third champion from the Northeast after Bill Rexford and Martin Truex junior as well as the first from New England .
