Hall of Fame Racing was a motorsport team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and was formed from a joint venture between two former quarterbacks in American football for the Dallas Cowboys : Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman . In September 2007 Jeff Moorad and Tom Garfinkel from the Arizona Diamondbacks bought their way into the team.

Founded in 2003, the team began its first season in the Nextel Cup in the 2006 season with technical support from Joe Gibbs Racing . Headquarters is in Dallas , Texas , while the workshop is in Charlotte , North Carolina .

history

The new team was first announced in 2004, but it took two years to get it set up. On November 3, 2005, the team announced at Texas Motor Speedway that it would start the 2006 season with a car. The DLP technology developed by Texas Instruments was sponsored with starting number 96 . Terry Labonte drove the first five races and placed the car within the top 35, which guaranteed a starting position in the subsequent races. Labonte also drove the car on the two street circuits. Tony Raines was behind the wheel for the rest of the races . The team's best result in the 2006 season was third place at the Infineon Raceway .

On September 4, 2007, the team announced that they had signed up former Joe Gibbs Racing # 18 driver , JJ Yeley , of the # 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet . The contract ran until 2010.

The best result in 2008 was a third place in New Hampshire . In September 2008 it was announced that Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach, Bill Saunders and Mark Griege are no longer the owners of the racing team.

At the end of the 2009 season , the racing stable was closed after two mergers.
