Kasey Kenneth Kahne (born April 10, 1980 in Enumclaw , Washington ) is an American racing driver in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series . He is also the owner of a car in the World of Outlaws racing series. Kahne is committed to charitable causes and is a member of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. He lives in Huntersville , North Carolina .

Career

Beginnings

Kahne began his racing career with open wheel sprint races at Deming Speedway in Deming before moving to Skagit Speedway in Alger for USAC races . He was signed by Steve Lewis , who also later became NASCAR racing drivers Jeff Gordon and Kenny Irwin Jr. had under contract. In the first year he was named Rookie of the Year and won the national Midget Championship at the same time. In the following season he drove on races in the USAC as well as in the Toyota Atlantic Series and the World of Outlaws .

Kahne took part in 20 races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series , where he drove the # 98 Ford Taurus for Robert Yates Racing . His best result was a tenth place in the Cabela's 250 . In the 2003 season he moved to the Great Clips Ford with the number 38 for Akins Motorsports . His first pole position was at Michigan International Speedway and his first victory in a Nationwide Series race in the Ford 300 . Kahne started for two races in the Craftsman Truck Series in the Team ASE Racing Dodge Ram with the number 2 for Ultra Motorsports , which he could both win.

Sprint Cup

Kahne replaced Bill Elliott in the Dodge with the starting number 9 when he announced that he would only drive a few selected races for the 2004 season. Due to the fact that Kahne still had a contract with Ford, a lawsuit ensued when he decided to drive for Evernham, which used cars sponsored by Dodge. Ford only allowed the switch to Dodge on payment of a transfer fee. Kahne was convincing when he almost won several races (five second places and 13 top 5 results), achieved five pole positions and was named rookie of the year. On the side, he drove 30 races for Akins in the Nationwide Series and finished the season in 15th.

2005

In his second season in the Nextel Cup , now known as the Sprint Cup, Kahne took his first win when he dominated the Chevy American Revolution 400 at Richmond International Raceway . This was also the first victory of a Dodge Charger after returning in 2005. Kahne was also in pole position for two consecutive weekends this season at Darlington Raceway and in Richmond. In the Nationwide Series he went this year in a total of 22 races for Akins and at the same time the new team from Evernham at the start. He won the O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway and the United Way 300 at Kansas Speedway .

2006

On Monday, March 20, 2006, Kahne won the Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which was postponed due to rain . Three weeks later, he won the Samsung / RadioShack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. He then won four more races in the same season, including both races at Lowe's Motor Speedway , the Coca-Cola 600 and the Bank of America 500 , where he finished ahead of Jimmie Johnson . He celebrated the other two victories at California Speedway and Michigan International Speedway .

On September 9, 2006, Kahne reached the Chase for the Nextel Cup with a third place on the Richmond International Raceway . He was tenth at the time and qualified last for the Chase by knocking reigning defending champion Tony Stewart 16 points out of the race. An accident at Dover International Speedway had a decisive impact on his ranking and Kahne finished the season in eighth place. In addition to the races in the Nextel Cup, he also competed in the 2006 season in the Busch Series, in which he won two races.

During qualifying for the Daytona 500 , officials found holes in the gear well of his Dodge Charger. A member of his crew said that only a piece of tape had fallen off covering the hole. The officials, however, claimed that the tape was cut on purpose. Kahne was one of four drivers alongside Matt Kenseth and his two teammates Scott Riggs and Elliot Sadler whose cars were found to have been illegally modified. The team was one of six teams caught cheating. Since then, Kahne has not been able to achieve a top 10 result. Due to a pole position at the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 , he was able to qualify for the Budweiser Shootout .

His first win of the 2007 season he achieved on May 26, 2007 in the Busch Series at the Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway .

2008

Kahne finished seventh in the first race of the season. Later that season, he won the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXIV and then the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway . After starting from pole position, he won the Pocono 500 . Nevertheless, he did not reach the twelfth place necessary for the Chase for the Sprint Cup and drove the rest of the season with no chances for the championship.

2009

At the beginning of the 2009 season , Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Petty Enterprises merged . From now on they form Richard Petty Motorsports . During the season Kahne was able to achieve two victories, in contrast to the previous year, he qualified for the Chase for the Sprint Cup. During the chase, however, Kahne only achieved four top 10 results, so that at the end of the season he finished tenth in the overall driver ranking. This was his best finishing position since the 2006 season.

2010

The 2010 season started mixed for Kahne. With only three top 10 placements from twelve races, he is outside the top 20 in the points.

2012

Kahne moved to Hendrick Motorsports that year, where he got the # 5 "Farmers Insurance" car. The beginning of the season was rather mixed for Kahne. It wasn't until the end of the season that he often made it into the top ten. After 36 races he had 2 wins and a fourth place in the overall standings.
