The steam boat Gustav Prym is a small saloon passenger ship in charter and excursion traffic on Lake Constance.
history
The motorboat , approved for 50 passengers , was built in 1916 for the motorboat operation of the Technischen Werke Konstanz . The riveted steel plate fuselage was manufactured in Hamburg at the Theodor Hitzler shipyard . The expansion took place in Bodman . The boat was named after Gustav Prym, a Stolberg industrialist and partner of William Prym GmbH & Co. KG , shortly before his death in December 1916. The city of Konstanz owed him a generous donation for the construction of the Bismarck Tower .
Used in the motorboat operations of the city of Constance
The Gustav Prym was used as a ferry boat to cross the Seerhein in Constance between the powder tower and the indoor swimming pool. Furthermore, it was for trips to the island of Reichenau , Mainau and after Meersburg used. It was used militarily in World War II . Until the end of 1962, it operated regular services in the Bay of Constance from the port of Constance to the Jakob lido. In 1965 it was converted into a fire boat by the Konstanz volunteer fire brigade and instead of the 29 hp petrol engine, it was given a 140 hp diesel engine.
Decommissioning and renovation 1985 to 1997
In 1985 the fireboat was decommissioned. In 1986 the Gustav Prym was saved from scrapping by a community of owners and was completely rebuilt as an excursion boat for 12 people plus crew by 1997. The diesel engine was replaced by a 3-cylinder compound steam engine from 1906 and a newly manufactured water tube boiler with heating oil was installed.
Re-commissioning as a saloon steamship
In 1999 Gustav Prym was granted Lake Constance approval for passenger ships. Since that is Gustav Prym , interrupted by a brief stint in 2004 on Lake Murten , in charters, excursions and traveling, and include not only the Hohentwiel and the first Bodensee-car ferry Konstanz to the popular fleet of classic Bodensee-passenger ships. In 2019 the ship was sold to the Association for the Promotion of Yachtsport Überlingen, in whose glass cellar yard it has been berthed ever since.
