The Fischbrunnen is a small fountain in the Munich district Pasing . It was created in 1938 by the Pasing sculptor Hans Osel in connection with the move of the Pasing Viktualienmarkt to the courtyard of the newly built market hall.

The idea of a market fountain stems from the time the market was founded in 1907. A lack of financial means that did not allow the construction of a stone fountain ultimately led to the erection of a temporary wooden structure at the old market location on Marienplatz in Pasing .

When the market moved to Hindenburgstraße (today: Bäckerstraße) and the rebuilding of the market hall, plans arose to set up a fountain again at the new location. When the new market hall opened on October 2, 1937, the sculptor Hans Osel was commissioned to design a stone fountain for their courtyard.

Osel created a polygonal fountain basin. In the middle there is a stone stele in which elongated gargoyles are embedded on all four sides. The stele ends with a bronze child figure, the so-called “ Brunnenbuberl ”. It depicts a small, curly-headed boy who is holding two fish for sale in both hands. With the motif, Osel took up the function of the environment.
