Fisherman's house Bürgin

The Fischerhaus Bürgin is a building in the Kleinhüningen district of Basel .

From around 1690 a family Bürgin can be traced as a fishing family in Kleinhüningen . The tradition of practicing the fishing profession has been lived through for generations. In 1764 and 1765 the fisherman's house on Schulgasse was built and in 1804 a stable with a barn was added. It was given the address "Schulgasse 27". Due to industrialization, the Schulgasse was shortened and the connection from Dorfstrasse to the house was built over. It was thus isolated - surrounded by industrial buildings - and threatened with demolition.

In 1999 the foundation pro Fischerhaus Schulgasse 27 was established with the aim of moving the house within Kleinhüningen and saving it for the future. Thanks to donations from private individuals, companies and foundations, a capital of around CHF 800,000 was raised. The dismantling followed in 1999, and in 2000 the original fisherman's house at the transition between Weilerweg and Bonergasse and at the Clavelgut was carefully rebuilt. The earlier materials such as quarry stone masonry , lime mortar, hewn wood, hand-worked wall paneling , a heated tiled stove and old roof tiles were re-used wherever possible with the help of specialist craftsmen. Today the house is used for events such as banquets, seminars, meetings, lectures and cultural events. For groups there are also guided tours through the house with stories from the time when salmon was still fished in the Rhine.
