The Hortobágy fish farm ( Hungarian: Hortobágy-halastavi Kisvasút) is a field railway with a track width of 760 mm for the management of the fish ponds west of the Hungarian town of Hortobágy . It is the only locomotive-operated fishing line in Europe.
history
The railway was built and put into operation in 1915. Steam and later diesel locomotives pulled trains with fish feed from the silo in Hortobágyi-Halastó, where there was also a reloading point on the standard -gauge railway , to the fish ponds, which were laid out in the 19th century, on the previously extensive network of the fish farm . They carried caught fish in the opposite direction. The railway line was temporarily shut down in 1960. Freight traffic is now carried out with trucks.
Tourist excursion traffic has been taking place in summer since 2007 on the main line, which is used as a museum railway . The one-way trip takes 23 minutes.
Rail vehicles
There are two C-50 diesel locomotives and an MV Kuli that is not operational . Three passenger cars were built on the chassis of two-axle freight cars. Due to the high volume of transport, a larger, two-axle wagon was built in 2016. There are also rail freight cars in need of renovation.
