Fiskars (Raseborg)
Fiskars ( Finnish Fiskari ) is a village in the municipality of Raseborg (Raasepori) in southern Finland . The place is known for the Fiskars company . In 2011 Fiskars had 454 residents.
The village of Fiskars emerged from an ironworks founded in 1649 by the Dutchman Peter Thorwöste . Due to its favorable location on the river Fiskars å (Fiskarinjoki), a small, industrial settlement developed over time. In recent history, the place has increasingly become a magnet for artists and designers.
Until 2009 Fiskars belonged to the municipality of Pojo (Pohja). Pojo was merged with the cities of Ekenäs and Karis to form the city of Raseborg in 2009 .
Others
The ski jumper Yrjö Kivivirta and the geobotanist and geographer Ragnar Hult were born in Fiskars. In 1966 the first orienteering world championships were held in Fiskars.
