Five colleges

As Five Colleges (English for five colleges ) five US universities in the Pioneer Valley in western Massachusetts are combined.

The Five Colleges include the public University of Massachusetts Amherst and the four private Liberal Arts Colleges Amherst College , Hampshire College , Smith College and Mount Holyoke College . The first three universities mentioned are in Amherst , Smith College in Northampton and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley . After the colleges, the area is also known as the Five College area .

Since 1965 the universities have been united in the consortium Five Colleges, Incorporated . The Five Colleges cooperate professionally in particular in that students from the participating universities can also attend courses at the other four universities. There is also cooperation between the libraries and through a shared bus network between the universities.
