Five gentlemen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Five Gentlemen are a Leipzig vocal ensemble.

The formation was founded in 1994 under the name The Gentlemen . The founding members Falko Thümmler, Tobias Leißner and Andreas Konrath were former members of the Dresden Kreuzchor . During their high school graduation at the Clara-Wieck-Gymnasium in Zwickau , they initially met Matthias Mehnert as a vocal quartet, from 1995 the ensemble expanded to five members when Gregor Meyer joined as a pianist.

Since 1994, the ensemble has mainly focused on the music of the 1920s and 1930s. A large number of arrangements by the Comedian Harmonists and other hits of the time can be found in the repertoire of the Five Gentlemen. In 1998 the group was renamed Five Gentlemen . Numerous engagements have taken the Five Gentlemen to almost all regions of Germany and to leading concert halls in the Federal Republic, such as the Komische Oper Berlin and the Konzerthaus Berlin or the Leipzig Gewandhaus , as well as abroad including China, India, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
