Gregor Meyer

Gregor Meyer (* 1979 in Zwickau ) is a German musician. He is a pianist , organist and choir director .

Life

The son of an Evangelical Lutheran pastor grew up in Johanngeorgenstadt . In 1997 he passed the Abitur at the Clara-Wieck-Gymnasium in Zwickau . He studied church music and postgraduate choral conducting at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater until 2003 with Morten Schuldt-Jensen , where he founded the Vocalconsort Leipzig in 1999 .

He wrote his diploma thesis on the organist of the St. Marien Church in Zwickau , Paul EF Gerhardt (1867–1946) and his relationship to the organ movement .

In 2007 he founded the vocal ensemble Concerto Sacro , which specializes in early music . Since then he has also directed the GewandhausChor in Leipzig. In addition, since 1995 he has performed as a pianist in the Five Gentlemen group . He is also arranger for the Calmus Ensemble and the Ensemble Amarcord and continuo organist with the Thomanerchor and the Knabenchor Hannover .

Since 2010 he has lectured at the Evangelical University for Church Music in Halle and at the HMT Leipzig , whose university choir he leads.

Meyer is co-founder and artistic director of the Leipzig Ensemble 1684, which has dedicated itself to cultivating Vorbach baroque music.
