Morten Schuldt-Jensen

Morten Schuldt-Jensen (* 1958 in Skærbæk , Denmark) is a Danish conductor and professor of choir and orchestral conducting at the Freiburg University of Music .

Education and musical activity

He studied at Det Kongelige Danske Conservatory of Music and at the University of Copenhagen . He completed his studies in choir and orchestra conducting, singing, vocal pedagogy and musicology with a “ Master of Arts”. He then completed further courses with Sergiu Celibidache and Eric Ericson .

From 1985 to 1987 he was a member of the Danish National Radio Choir. Schuldt-Jensen founded the internationally known Tivoli Concert Choir in 1990. With his ensemble he won several international competitions and prizes.

In 1995 and 1997 he represented Denmark as a conductor at the Scandinavian-Baltic Choir Festival. He was guest conductor with the MDR-Rundfunkchor Leipzig in 1996, 1999 and 2001, with the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin in 2001 and 2002. He also worked with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin , the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Helsingborgs Symfoniorkester and the DR Radiokoret and the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra . In addition, there were rehearsals for conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle , Herbert Blomstedt , Philippe Herreweghe , Vladimir Ashkenazy and Lothar Zagrosek .

From 1999 to 2007 he was choir director at the Leipzig Gewandhaus and director of the Leipzig GewandhausChors . In 2000 he took over the leadership of the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra. In 2001 he founded the Gewandhaus Chamber Choir , from which the Immortal Bach Ensemble emerged in 2004 .

University activity

In 1992 he was Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, and from 2001 to 2006 he was a lecturer at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . In 2006 he took up the position of professor for choir and orchestra conducting at the Freiburg University of Music.

Awards

In 1990 he was awarded the “Erling Høls Mindelegat” award. He has also received awards from the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
