Five Spot After Dark is a jazz composition by tenor saxophonist and arranger Benny Golson .

It was recorded for the first time by Benny Golson and trombonist Curtis Fuller for his album Blues-ette ( Savoy Records , 1959). The blues composition was created during the guest performance of Curtis Fuller's quintet with Golson at the New York jazz club Five Spot . Shortly thereafter, Art Farmer recorded it for his Brass Shout album . A short time later, Farmer, Fuller and Golson formed the formation Art Farmer / Benny Golson Jazztet, whose first appearance was to be in that Five Spot.

Five Spot After Dark is not to be confused with the title Bohemia After Dark (which was written by Oscar Pettiford and played by Cannonball Adderley ) The title was also recorded by Shirley Scott and the band Twobones .
