Fjalar is an Icelandic , Finnish and Swedish given name. The name is a modern variant of the Old Norse name Fjalarr. The meaning is unclear, three possibilities are being discussed: the name could be derived from Old Norse fela “to hide”; or there is a relationship with the modern Norwegian word fjela "peek, watch"; Finally, a derivation from Old Norse fjǫl- with the meaning "much, diverse, diverse" is possible.
The name Fjalar was not among the hundred most popular names in Iceland in 2012 .
Fjalar is the name of a dwarf and a son of the fire giant Surtr from Norse mythology .
