Count Fyodor Petrovich Tolstoy ( Russian Фёдор Петрович Толстой ; born February 10 . Jul / 21 February 1783 greg. In Saint Petersburg , † April 13 jul. / April 25, 1873 greg. ) Was a famous Russian painter, draftsman and 19th century sculptor.

He graduated from a military school of the Imperial Russian Navy in Saint Petersburg in 1802 . At this time he became increasingly interested in art and became a guest student at the State Art Academy . In 1804 he left the armed forces and since then has devoted himself to painting. Tolstoy was particularly active in non-traditional areas, such as creating wax reliefs , smaller portraits and medals. In 1810 he got a permanent job at the St. Petersburg Mint, where he created medals with motifs from the Patriotic War of 1812 .

In 1828 he became vice-president of the art academy, 14 years later professor. As a sculptor, he was involved in the architectural design of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow .

Tolstoy was actively involved in Taras Shevchenko's release from exile in 1857 .

Fyodor Petrovich Tolstoy was a cousin of the scandalous officer and adventurer Fyodor Ivanovich Tolstoy . Tolstoy's daughter Ekaterina Junge was a portrait, genre and landscape painter.
