Refugee child Tiba is the title of a portrait, a series of short documentaries for the show with the mouse , in which the refugee child Tiba is accompanied with his family. So far, eight parts of the series have appeared. First of all, retrospectively, the family's flight from Syria is reported. The focus is on Tiba's everyday life against the background of the stages of acceptance, recognition and integration in Germany. The family has been accompanied since mid-2015. The reporter is Christoph Biemann, known from the show with the mouse . The films are available indefinitely in the ARD and WDR media libraries.

The everyday life of the family is emphasized, but also their dealings with foreigners and the increasing integration in Germany. The portrait begins with the family staying in an initial reception center in tents, in a tent city in Duisburg-Walsum . In a flashback, the flight of the family from Deir ez-Zor (Syria) is shown using photos of the family on the run. First the everyday life of Tiba is described, z. B. in the washrooms and in German lessons. Towards winter the weatherproof accommodation is closed and the family has to move. The next stop for the family is a so-called weatherproof accommodation. Tiba celebrates her tenth birthday here. Then the family moves into an apartment in Essen. Tiba is also accompanied in her everyday school life in Essen . Among other things, the school enrollment examination is shown. Her brother Mohammed is celebrating his fifth birthday. In the course of the event, Tiba is diagnosed with poor eyesight and the shipment accompanies her to the ophthalmologist. She gets glasses. Another episode reports on Tiba's musical interests: She dances in the Hip-Hop AG. A year earlier she started playing the trumpet as part of the JeKi and made great progress. Both talents came to the fore at a performance at their school.

For the youth magazine TELEVIZION of Bayerischer Rundfunk, Genia Baranowski conducted an interview with Christoph Biemann on the series entitled Beyond the anonymous mass: The refugee child Tiba. A conversation with Christoph Biemann and emphasized: “Contact changes the relationship with refugees”.
