Flag of the Altai Republic

The Altai flag is the official flag of the Altai Autonomous Republic within Russia . The flag consists of four horizontal stripes. These are alternately white and light blue. The width of the large stripe is 16/25, that of the two small stripes is 1/25 and that of the bottom 1/4 of the flag width.

The colors have the following meanings:

  • Light blue: The light blue stripes are a symbol of cleanliness, sky, mountains, rivers and lakes of the Altai.
  • White: The white stripes symbolize eternity, aspiration to revive, love and approval of the peoples of the Altai Republic.

The flag was designed by the artist VP Chukuyev and officially adopted on July 2, 1992 . On March 3, 1993 , regulations for the flag were adopted and the aspect ratio was 1: 2. On June 29, 1994 the proportions were changed to 2: 3, and finally to 1: 2 again on April 24, 2003 .
