The flag of the Republic of Suvadiva was the national flag of the internationally unrecognized republic of the United Suvadiva Islands , which existed in the south of the Maldives from 1959 to 1963 .
Description and meaning
The flag consists of a horizontal tricolor ; from top to bottom three stripes of blue, green and red color. In the middle there is a crescent moon and a star in white as a symbol of Islam , plus two more white stars on the top right and bottom left. The stars and the crescent moon form an ascending, diagonal line.
The colors red, green and white can also be found in the flag of the Maldives and were probably adopted from it. The origin and meaning of the blue color is unclear.
Since the appearance of the flag has not been officially determined, there are different variants, including different color saturation of the stripes, changed position and size of the stars or a different aspect ratio.
