Flag of the Swedish Finns

Unofficial flag of the Swedish Finns

The flag of the Swedish Finnish ( Swedish : Sverigefinska flaggan ; Finnish : Ruotsinsuomalainen lippu ) is the unofficial flag of the Finnish minority in Sweden . The Scandinavian cross flag was designed in 2007 to symbolize the Swedish Finns and is a mix of the Finnish and Swedish flags . The white background with the blue cross represents the bond with Finland , the Finnish culture and the Finnish ancestry, while the golden yellow border of the blue cross points to the Swedish adopted home.

The basic idea behind the flag was to make the presence of the Swedish Finns clear, because for a long time the minority was regarded as a quiet and inconspicuous group. Many of them have a split relationship with the Finnish flag, which was previously used in connection with the Finns in Sweden. The Swedish Finns of the second and third generation were all born and raised in Sweden and feel very little connected to Finland, a country they may hardly know. Through its mixture, the flag symbolizes the dual identity with two cultures and languages.
