Flags of the United Arab Emirates
This list shows and explains the flags of the United Arab Emirates .
history
In the 18th century all tribes in the Persian Gulf carried a red flag, the badge of the Sherif of Mecca .
When the peace treaty with Great Britain was concluded on January 8, 1820, the contracting states undertook to provide their red flag with a white border as a peace symbol. To distinguish the individual countries, put their names in white Arabic script in the red field. Today the sheikdoms united in the United Arab Emirates fly the red and white flag in different arrangements.
