Flame Dream was a progressive rock band from Switzerland , which was one of the most important European bands of this genre in the early 1980s.

style

Acoustic comparable to Genesis (in Peter Gabriel's time), with influences from van der Graaf Generator (saxophone instead of guitar), Yes , Gentle Giant , Jethro Tull and UK , the band shaped a sound dominated by keyboard and rhythm, in which the guitar only appears as bass. The singing voice of Peter Wolf is absolutely characteristic and formative for the melancholy sound despite the concise and complex rhythm of the music - comparisons with Phil Collins or Roger Hodgson ( Supertramp ) only indicate the direction.

Band history

After a successful start, the second album is already receiving wide attention (and a renowned label). Various critics consider Out In The Dark to be the culmination of the group's musical output. After that, the attempt to modernize the sound and make it accessible to a wider audience becomes apparent. This succeeds quite convincingly with the album Supervision , Travaganza is finally also distributed in England.

Between 1978 and 1986 the band toured all over Switzerland several times.

With the last album, however, the group can no longer build on the old successes, even die-hard fans had expected more after 3 years. This process is somewhat reminiscent of the development of Anyone's Daughter : After a furious start, a phase of commercial adaptation follows, until the inspiration finally appears to be exhausted.

Former members are Erich Scheiber, Gody Berger and John Wolf Brennan . The from Los Angeles native guitarist Dale Hauskins was at Out In The Dark participated as a guest musician.
