Bottle pyramid
Bottle pyramids are narrow Christmas pyramids , the rotating body of which is completely inserted into a transparent bottle. Only the wings look out. They form a subspecies of the better known wooden pyramids of the Ore Mountains. They were first made in the spare time around 1900.

The increased industrial glass bottle production stimulated the ingenuity of the Erzgebirge craftsmen. In addition, the wood-firing system for cooking and heating, which was widespread in the 19th century, caused constant soot pollution in the living spaces of the time . In order to avoid the time-consuming cleaning of the beloved Christmas items, an alternative was sought in the form of the glass bottles: they were easy to clean and then appeared like new.
The production of a bottle pyramid takes a lot of time and a lot of patience and is therefore uneconomical, so it never came to mass production. Few people make these in their free time and pass them on in the family. The older models were always very colorful and decorated with different decorations such as pearl necklaces.
After the fall of the Wall , the general interest in folk art articles and traditions grew . So small manufactories were founded that also have bottle pyramids in their range. Among other things, the Schönfelder Erzgebirgsstube in the Wiesenbad thermal baths offers such Christmas decorations.

There are three types of bottle pyramids:
- the simple bottle pyramid with a bottle and an impeller,
- the crystal pyramid with four bottles and four impellers as well
- the bottle of patience with a pyramid inside the bottle but without an impeller.
