Johann Vollmers
Johann Vollmers (born October 5, 1753 in Bremen , † October 31, 1818 in Bremen) was a German businessman and Bremen senator .
biography
Vollmers was the son of the seafarer Arp Vollmers and his wife Metta Lucia. He learned the trade of a merchant and sail maker and was a partner in the commission , shipping and proper dealership Pundsack & Vollmers in Bremen on Langenstrasse , which then operated under the name Vollmers & Böving . In 1794 he became the merchant's parent, i.e. spokesman or head of the merchants.
In 1800 he was appointed councilor or senator of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen as the successor to Senator Johann Simon Baer, an office that he held until his death in 1818. From 1806 he was entrusted with diplomatic missions, including in Paris and Hamburg . He was a close confidante of Senator Johann Smidt (1773-1857) and together with Smidt he represented Bremen's interests in France. From February 1811 to August he was provisional municipal council . After the French period in Bremen and the end of the Weser estuary department , he was permanently appointed to the (initially provisional) eight-member government commission of Bremen on November 6, 1813.
Vollmers was married to Metta Grommé since 1789. They had five children. In 1788 he was one of the founders of the Bremen Masonic Lodge Zum Ölzweig .
