Piglets in a flat deck compartment

As a flat deck (also flat deck ; English flat deck , literally flat deck or a flat deck ) is referred to the part of the shed, in the piglets are held between the third and tenth week of life.

Key data

After around 30 degrees Celsius in the piglet nest, the temperature is continuously reduced to around 20 degrees Celsius as the piglet weight increases. After about 21 to 28 days, the piglets no longer receive sow milk and are fed with a prestarter. These baby piglets weigh around 8 kg when they are weaned from the mother sow and are kept in piglet rearing for around 9 weeks up to a weight of around 30 kg. This results in an increase in life weight of around 450 to 500 grams per day. Organic acids reduce the colonization of intestinal germs in the piglets.
