history

Bat lock Weißig

The oldest document dates from 1469, when the place "Weissigke" is mentioned. The nearby Eichberg was the scene of a major battle. On May 19, 1813, a battle took place between Russian-Prussian allies and Napoleon's soldiers . Over 1700 soldiers of the York Corps and 2000 French were killed. In 1913, 100 years later, a memorial was inaugurated at the site of the battle.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle served as a hunting lodge for the von Steinitz-Kolbitz manor family. In 1921 the Weißig manor was bought by Prince Ulrich von Schönburg-Waldenburg . In 1922, the Berlin lawyer Adolf Oeren was the last owner of the Weißig hunting lodge and the Steinitz estate that belonged to it with around 700 hectares of land. At the end of the Second World War, resettlers from the former eastern regions of the empire found refuge in the hunting lodge. There were ten families in all.

Despite the socialist housing program, the castle served as a residential building until 1997 . The married couple Christine and Siegfried Liepert bought the neglected property in 1996 . It was renovated a year later. The work was finished in 1998, so that on May 31, 1998 the opening of the bat castle Weißig was celebrated.
