Fleischner Society

The Fleischner Society (English for Fleischner Society ) is an international association of outstanding thoracic radiologists . Your publications and recommendations enjoy worldwide recognition.

The society was founded in 1969 by eight American radiologists ( Robert Fraser , Leo Rigler , Benjamin Felson , George Simon , Norman Blank , Richard Greenspan , Eric Milne , Morris Simon ) and named after their recently deceased colleague from Boston and Harvard Felix Fleischner (1893– 1969) named. In it, outstanding specialists should cooperate to research and teach radiology of the chest .

In addition to the annual non-public conference at which the participants exchange and discuss research results, the society directs its main activity towards publications, some of which are research-oriented, some of which are standardized as "recommendations".

In particular, the recommendations for follow-up monitoring of solid pulmonary nodules (2005) and non-solid pulmonary nodules (2013) that were discovered by chance in computed tomography are frequently used or cited.

According to its own information, the society had around 70 international active members and 40 inactive seniors (after ten years of membership or after their 60th birthday) in 2016, not all of whom come from radiology. The current chairman (2016) is the Boston radiologist Alexander A. Bankier . Entry is only possible by invitation and with a two-thirds majority of the active members. The office is operated by the American College of Radiology in Reston , Virginia.
