Flektogon is the type designation of a wide-angle lens series with an extended focal length from VEB Carl Zeiss Jena . First, the Flektogon 1: 2.8 / 35 mm was created in 1950 as a wide angle for SLR cameras . Its development ran parallel and independently of Pierre Angenieux 's retrofocus lens, whose optical construction and focal length were almost identical. While the first pre-series samples of the Flektogon were being produced in 1950, Angenieux applied for a patent for its development on July 29, 1950. Harry Zöllner's group in Jena did not apply for their patents until 1953, when series production of both lenses began.

The special construction meant a special step forward, as it enabled high-intensity wide-angle lenses on single-lens reflex cameras. However, it was not the first such optical system with a short focal length and long back focus . Such a patent was applied for by the British Horrace William Lee as early as 1930. At that time, however, for use on cinema cameras with beam splitter prisms.

This new type of lens was then manufactured in variants by all well-known manufacturers, e.g. B. also as a Distagon from Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen). The Flektogon type was continuously developed, in 1956 the Flektogon 1: 4/25 mm appeared, in 1961 the Flektogon 1: 4/20 mm as the first super wide-angle lens for SLR cameras with a 93 degree angle of view, followed in 1976 by the Flektogon 1: 2.8 / 20 mm . These lenses were made for non- autofocus - M42 lens threads and with other connections. Later (from 1978) lenses for the bayonet connection of cameras of the Praktica -B series were manufactured under the name "Prakticar".

For the 6x6 format (Praktisix / Pentacon Six ) the Flektogon 1: 2.8 / 65 mm and the well-known Flektogon 1: 4/50 mm were produced.

There were also types for the cine film. Production ended in 1991.
