Flexible

Under flexive (also: Flexem, Flexionselement, Flexionsmittel) understands the linguistics all ways by which the flexion and Komparation expressed by words.

Forms of the flexible

Flexives can come in different forms; There are three main options:

  • the inflection affixes (inflection prefixes, inflection suffixes / endings) such as -st (go-st) in German for the 2nd person singular in verbs or -s in English for the plural of nouns ( boot-s ).
  • the vowel change ( ablaut , umlaut ), with which the plural of the nouns (fathers) is sometimes expressed in German or the plural ( feet ) in English as well.
  • simple vowel elongation as in Latin casus (the case), from which the plural casūs arises.
