Come Saturday Morning is Liza Minnelli's fifth studio album . It appeared in 1969; It was named after the title song of the movie Pookie , in which Minnelli played the leading role that same year.

background

With Come Saturday Morning followed Liza Minnelli in 1968 Minnelli's second studio album, for which she recorded ostensibly contemporary pop songs.

After the failure of the LP Liza Minnelli , A&M was already considering a possible break with Minnelli, but after the success of the film Pookie , whose title song Come Saturday Morning was interpreted by the group The Sandpipers, it was decided to record another album with her; Come Saturday Morning was incorporated into the arrangements as one of their reinterpretations.

With Nevertheless , a song was from the Tin Pan Alley -time of the early 1930s input into the album. For the first time, Liza Minnelli did not record a song by her favorite musical composers Fred Ebb and John Kander for one of her studio albums .

reception

The music critic William Ruhlmann notes Liza Minnelli's artistic diversity. She interpreted the contemporary pop songs with ease; but their classic pieces like BE REDUCED Nevertheless audible closer. Traditional pop is more of a musical element. Despite the success of Pookie and its theme song, the commercial failure of this album was predictable.
