reception

Liza Minnelli's biographer Scott Schechter noticed a certain sobriety in Minnelli's singing, but at the same time a rich depth. Minnelli herself commented on her work with the words: “My singing is not ostentatious or lively. That's just me. "

The well-known music critic William Ruhlmann added Liza Minnelli's expressiveness as a singer as a plus point for the album. However, the listener is misled by the title of the album ( Gently = "in a gentle way"), because Minnelli does not sing softly and gently. Her voice is filled with warmth, strength and dynamism. With this varied album, she also referred to her musical roots in the admission that she could no longer reach a younger audience.

Gently was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1996 for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance” .
