A flexitank is a tank container made of rubber fabric or other flexible composite materials intended for the storage and transport of liquids . This allows liquids (both chemical substances and food) to be stored and transported that are not subject to the dangerous goods ordinance. A special form are flexible tanks that are used specifically to fit on trucks and in containers.

Structure and functionality

A flexitank is a bag-like container made of durable rubber or polypropylene fabric. The capacity of storage tanks is up to 400,000 liters, and accordingly less for loadable tanks of the vehicle size.

The tank is filled through a valve and vented with the aid of a vent valve. The inner construction of the tank consists of several layers of foil. The inner layer can be designed in different ways to ensure compatibility with the product.

An anti-slip mat is laid for transport in the truck trailer to ensure that the load is secured . The Flexitank is additionally secured with tension belts to prevent the contents from sloshing excessively.

advantages

The Flexitanks are inexpensive compared to fixed tanks and can be stored in a space-saving manner when they are empty. Aid organizations such as the Red Cross, THW and the fire brigade have these tanks on standby. During transport, the lower weight of the flexitanks increases the loading capacity of the vehicles, and normal truck loading areas can be used for transport without any modifications. If chambers and rocker walls are built into the tanks, the usual speeds can be driven. As a rule, flexitanks are reusable, but there are also those as single-use products, while others are approved for transporting food. They are also used in the context of their load capacity for lightly flowing bulk goods.
