Linc Energy Limited was an Australian energy company specializing in the production of synthetic gasoline from coal . Linc Energy was active in the development and commercialization of underground coal gasification . The group produced gas using gas liquefaction technology to produce synthetic gasoline, but also planned to use gas to generate electrical energy.

history

Linc Energy Limited was incorporated as Linc Energy NL on October 29, 1996 and changed its name to Linc Energy Ltd on November 17, 2000 . Linc Energy was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on May 10, 2006 and later on the OTCQX commodities trading platform in New York in December 2007.

Linc began developing a demonstration plant in Chinchilla in July 1999 that produced the first gas in the same year, yet it took more than two years to control the entire process. Linc Energy initially used a technology from Ergo Exergy Technologies Inc. from Canada for underground coal gasification . However, the use with Ergo Exergy was limited in time. After this period, a cooperation agreement was concluded with the Skochinsky Institute of Mining and the Scientific-Technical Mining Association of Russia for the application of another technology, as well as for consultations and engineering services .

In 2005, Linc Energy signed a memorandum with Syntroleum that secured it the use of a license for Syntroleum gas liquefaction technology. Linc Energy began construction of a gas liquefaction plant, the Chinchilla Plant, in November 2007. The plant was completed in August 2008 and delivered the first crude oil in October 2008. The pilot plant was officially inaugurated on April 22, 2009 and the plant's fourth generator was completed in February 2010.

On December 20, 2007, Linc Energy took over 60% and later 74% of the Uzbek company Yerostigaz , which operates coal gas liquefaction plants. On October 15, 2008, land was taken over by the South Australian oil and gas company SAPEX Limited . This acquisition gave Linc Energy access to the Arckaringa , St Vincent and Walloway Basins , which are home to coal and oil. On December 3, 2008, Linc Energy announced that it intends to acquire North American Powder River Basin land from Casper, Wyoming , a company that uses gas technology. The first land in Wyoming was assigned in May 2009 and additional land was acquired in the states of Montana and North Dakota in the same year. In March 2010, Linc Energy acquired land rights in the Cook Inlet Basin in Alaska . Project implementation and approval for gas liquefaction plants in North America have been issued.

In November 2007, Linc Energy entered into a cooperation with BioCleanCoal Pty Ltd. to set up a joint venture to develop a prototype that, as a bioreactor , will be able to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and solid biomass through photosynthesis .

On April 15, 2016 Linc Energy filed for bankruptcy.

Business areas

The headquarters of Linc Energy is Brisbane in Australia. The company also has business interests in Queensland , South Australia , North America , Vietnam and Uzbekistan . The group owns the chinchilla demonstration plant 300 km west of Brisbane, which is the world's first gas liquefaction plant to produce synthesis gas through underground gas liquefaction plants. This plant has four natural gas generators, a gas liquefaction pilot plant, a laboratory and a wastewater treatment plant.

Linc Energy is also planning a gas liquefaction facility in the Arckaringo Basin in South Australia that will produce 20,000 barrels per day (3,200 m³ per day). This plant is being developed by Aker Solutions and is intended to produce synthesis gas from coal gasification processes. BP has an option to purchase 70% of the diesel fuel produced by this facility.

In the Yining mining area in China, Linc Energy is planning to develop a coal gasification project in cooperation with the Xinwen Mining Group . Together with Vinacomin , Song Hong Energy and Marubeni , Linc Energy is preparing a gas liquefaction project in the Red River Delta (UCG Tonkin) in the Hưng Yên province in Vietnam.

Linc Energy plans to own the land of the Emerald, Galilee and Pentland coal mines in Queensland, Australia, which they intend to sell.

Yerostigaz

Yerostigaz is a subsidiary of Linc Energy in Angren , Uzbekistan. The company was founded in 1961 and has been working continuously in underground gasification since 1964. It is part of the former Soviet coal gasification company, which was the first company in the world to use this technology commercially. Linc Energy has developed an exchange program in which the experts from Yerostigaz will contribute their experience and knowledge to the Australian chinchilla project. Yerostigaz produces around one million m³ of synthesis gas a day.
