From the tried and tested wooden stamp and the modern name and address stamp with integrated ink pad (self-inking) for authorities or companies to motif stamps with a decorative border for the design of an invitation card, from ticket validators to time clocks , a flexograph produces stamps in all possible forms. Also flexographic printing plates for multicolored print products such as packaging are made by him to the customer's plans. The design of signs , engravings and design work in prepress have long been part of the spectrum of flexographers .

The skills of the flexographer are very diverse: from roll-off and pocket stamps, round and oval stamps to finger stamps. The flexographer uses the most modern technology: typesetting and design of the template are done at the computer workstation. Depending on the stamp material selected, different production methods are then used, such as the washing process of photopolymer stamp plates or laser engraving of the raw rubber.

In 1968 the job description of the flexographer according to the Crafts Code was first published in the Federal Law Gazette and thus put into effect. In the industry, the job title "stamp maker" was used until 1997. Since the revision of the job description in 1997, the job title flexographer has been valid equally in industry and craft.

In 2010 the training content was revised again. The apprenticeship was available until August 1, 2011 under the name of media designer flexography .
