Swedish variant, called "trasmatta"

The patchwork is usually very colorful, woven carpet of long, sewn together strips of cloth as a shot .

production

Weaving is done on two-shaft looms in weft rep , which makes the cord-like warp threads almost invisible and makes the fabric particularly hard-wearing. A long, sewn-together strip of fabric made from various remnants (the patches or stains) is used as the weft . If yarn of different thickness and consistency is used, this is brought to the same length using the technique of hanging. The patches can also be colored as required.

history

The Mühlviertel in Upper Austria has a long tradition of this type of carpet . Especially after the Second World War , the Mühlviertel Fleckerl carpet was in great demand.

The manufacture of carpets also has a long tradition in Chiemgau . Here you can find old looms that have been used for generations to weave and that are now used by artisans to make spot carpets.

In Upper Swabia was specifically Allgäu Bändelteppich made.

Trivia

In a figurative sense, all types of fragmentation or dissection are also referred to as a patchwork quilt.
