Flip flop button

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A flip-flop button refers to a button ( English button ), the own label (after each click Caption changes).

With flip-flop buttons you can easily save space in a graphical user interface , but their user-friendliness can suffer if the button labels are carelessly selected, if they leave you in doubt: A button with the label 'On' that is activated after pressing (e.g. by pressing the mouse button) changes to 'Off', can mean that it is currently in the 'On' state - or that it will only adopt this state after pressing the button.

This ambiguity can be avoided by selecting the button labels unambiguously, for example 'Switch on'. Nowadays there are usually no such buttons at all.
