Hlíðarendi in Fljótshlíð

Fljótshlíð (German river slope ) is an area in southern Iceland . There used to be a rural community with this name (isl. Fljótshlíðarhreppur ). In 2002 it was incorporated into the Rangárþing eystra community .

Fljótshlíð is located east of the town of Hvolsvöllur and north of the Þverá and Markarfljót rivers . A simple, rustic youth hostel is now operated on the easternmost farm in Fljótsdalur .

This area is known from the Brennu Njáls saga . Gunnar Hámundarson's Hlíðarendi farm stood here. The farm is still known today.
