The Floßberg is 638  m above sea level. NHN meter high mountain in the Thuringian Forest , which borders directly on the southern outskirts of Ilmenau . It is located in front of the 749 meter high Lindenberg to the northeast and slopes down to the Ilm valley in the north and to the Schorte valley in the east . The development extends on its north side to a height of about 540 meters, above it then follows a spruce forest, which is also interspersed with individual other tree species.

The Krumme Weg leads around the top of the Floßberg from Ilmenau up to the Bobhütte on the Lindenberg. In the 1920s, a street in Ilmenau was named after the Floßberg.
