Florapark Bern

The Florapark is a small park area in Bern's Monbijou district between Monbijoustrasse in the west, Schwarztorstrasse in the south and Sulgeneckstrasse in the east.

The park took its name from the Flora Fountain , a round pavilion with a fountain and a statue of flora based on a design by the artist Otto Roos and the flora statue by the sculptor August Heer for the 1914 state exhibition - where it stood in front of the Studerstein restaurant - and moved there in 1915 has been. The park was originally part of the Monbijoufriedhof, which was replaced by the Bremgarten cemetery in 1865 . While most of the former cemetery was being built over, the southwest corner was converted into a promenade as a Flora Park in 1916.

Due to its location between the Head Office of Customs , Bern vocational, technical and advanced training school, the new US Embassy and other educational institutions and office buildings, the park is a popular place to stay in the summer at noon. In the evening and at night, however, the park is sometimes visited by prostitutes and suitors from the nearby street at the Kleine Schanze .
