The Florence Nunatak is a striking and 280 m high nunatak in the southwest of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises about two miles east of the head end of Potter Cove .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the British sealer Florence , who operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands between 1876 and 1877. The wintering of part of the crew in Potter Cove in 1877 only one member survived.
