The flight runners ( Dolichus halensis ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles .

features

With a body length of up to 19 mm, Dolichus halensis is one of the larger ground beetle species. The black wing covers have a wedge-shaped red spot pointing backwards from the thorax. The thorax, which is also black, is lined with yellow or yellow-red on both sides. The antennae and legs are yellowish in color.

Distribution, habitat and way of life

The distribution of the refugee runs from Europe to Asia, whereby the species occurs much more frequently to the south. The species is considered characteristic of heat-favored habitats. It inhabits extensively managed agricultural land and rowing habitats . The beetle is often found in harvested fields.

The refugee, referred to by Horion as an "inland wanderer", evidently develops mass occurrences in Central Europe due to climatic influences. In Styria there was a significant increase in the number of finds from the 1980s and a strong accumulation of finds in the mid-1990s, the latter being associated with the particularly warm year 1994. The species overwinters as a larva .
