Aircraft Electronics Technician

The aircraft electronics technician is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act . The previous job was an electronics technician for aerospace systems . The reorganization was necessary to meet the requirements of the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt and EASA.

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become an aircraft electronics technician is usually three and a half years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .

The areas of application are:

  • Turbine-powered aircraft
  • Piston-powered aircraft
  • Turbine helicopter
  • Piston engine helicopter

An integral part of the training is teaching the theoretical part of the EASA CAT A license. Furthermore, the training periods after the final examination part 1 can be recognized as practical experience. The CAT A license partially authorizes the technical approval of work carried out on an aircraft.

There is currently a cross-national specialist class in Hamburg. The lessons in the cross-national specialist class take place in block lessons.

The final exam is divided into two parts. The first part takes place at the end of the second year of training.

The training courses for aircraft electronics technicians and aircraft mechanics overlap. Joint vocational school lessons are therefore possible in the first year of the apprenticeship.

The aircraft electronics technician was a training occupation from 1997 to 2003, until he was replaced in 2003 by the electronics technician for aeronautical systems . In 2013, the ordinance was revised again and the job title changed back to aircraft electronics technician .
