The airfield Kilkenny ( English Kilkenny Airport , irish Aerphort Chill Chainnigh ; IATA : KKY, ICAO : EIKK) is about 2.8 km west from Kilkenny , Ireland lying airfield. It was founded in 1963 by John Hehir, Martin Mulhall, Patrick Nolan and Edward Stallard. All of the founding members were active pilots and residents of Kilkenny.
The airfield was licensed for the first time on April 30, 1965 by the Department of Transport and Power and has been able to renew the license every year since then. The current license holder is the Irish Skydiving Club Limited. Originally the airfield consisted of two grass runways, in 1976 one of the two runways was closed and the other extended to 930 meters. It is the longest privately licensed runway in Ireland.
There is a parachute jump club and a flying club on the airfield . The Kinair Air Rally has also been held at Kilkenny Airport for 25 years.
