English flight tippler

Red Sheffield Tippler

The English flying tippler is a breed of pigeon that was bred from English bottlenose dolphins . Like all domestic pigeons, it descends from the wild rock pigeon ( Columba livia ), which was domesticated in the Persian-Indian region . The breed was bred out in England around 1840 by crossing native bottlenose dolphins with French Cumulet bottlenose dolphins .

Flight type

From the original flying tipplers, different types developed for aviation: the Sheffield tipplers, Manchester tipplers, Macclesfield tipplers, Leicester tipplers and the Lincoln crazies. Although these types can no longer be differentiated based on their body shape, breeders claim to be able to identify differences in flight.

Flying tipplers are persistent flying pigeons. The international record in endurance flight was set on May 21, 1995 by a stab of pigeons from Irishman Harry Shannon. His old tipplers flew 22 hours and 5 minutes. The record for young tipplers is 20 hours and 42 minutes. In contrast to carrier pigeons , flying tipplers are not brought to another location beforehand. Flying tipplers fly within sight of the home dovecote .

Races are organized by flying pigeon federations and associations. In Germany these are u. a. the German Flight Tippler Union eV (DFU) and the Tippler Club Germany (TCD).

Show type

Dark colored show flying tippler

As usual with English or American bottlenose dolphins, there are also two types of flying tippler, each of which is recognized as an independent breed in the countries mentioned. The type of flight has already been described above. The show type was included as an English show flight tippler with the number 919 in the EE list of pedigree pigeons of the European Breeding Association. Great Britain is the standard setting.
